Christmas 2025 day 1
Non standard meal this year, for the real deal comes Saturday…when most of the rest of the family arrives. I have been working this week and will into the next. My turn for the holiday coverage. Hence the delayed celebration. But the bottom line is that it is less about Christmas and more about family being together.
We haven’t had all of us together since we buried my mother several years ago. A few will be missing this weekend, but having everyone here is going to be amazing. We had part of the celebration over Thanksgiving in Indiana with my youngest’s family - the new baby. They are not able to be here this weekend so that was the offshoot to be with them. They will be missed but one of these days we will manage to be all together. Hopefully I will be retired by then.
I remember my mother saying that she was going to quit cooking dinner - that she was getting too old to manage it anymore. It made me sad at the time, but geez, I now understand what she meant.
But the bottom line is the family is together to celebrate each other. It doesn’t get better than this.
Today is the first day of Christmas, 11 more to go. People forget that Christmas is actually 12 days. I tell folks that I am terrible for getting gifts ready when they are supposed to be - I would tell my kids that I had 12 days to give gifts..and in reality the gift giving is supposed to be in relation to the Magi who arrived with gifts on the 12th night - so I’m with them…wandering around the desert …and due to light pollution the star in the east can’t be seen, so eventually I’ll get there. Which is why most likely you will get your Christmas present in September!
